D-Compact's nose takes styling cues from Daihatsu Sirion

Daihatsu will unveil its D-Compact concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The 4x4's design hints heavily at how future Terios models could look. It is longer, taller and wider than the current model.

The nose takes styling cues from the Sirion supermini but Daihatsu says the tailgate-mounted spare wheel will give the D-Concept the look of a more traditional off-roader.

A spokesman for Daihatsu said: 'The D-Compact features a roomy, practical four-door body that avoids the bulk, high fuel consumption and negative image of some off-roaders.'

However, its full-time four-wheel drive, mechanical differential lock and stability control suggest it should be able to perform off road as well as on it.

The concept model is powered by the Sirion's 103bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine, but a 2.0-litre petrol and a diesel engine are also being considered by the company.
