If you're looking for a large, seven-seat MPV that’s practical and rewarding to drive, it doesn’t get much better than the Ford Galaxy.
The economical 138bhp diesel engine is smooth and flexible, and the Galaxy is fun to drive, with sharp steering and lots of grip. It’s also an impressively quiet and refined cruiser.
Inside, the high-quality cabin is well equipped, roomy and practical, offering good luggage space as well as generous accommodation for up to seven adults.
While the Galaxy is not expensive in itself, the closely related Ford S-Max – with which it shares many of its mechanicals – is almost as practical but significantly cheaper. Our favourite MPV – the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso – is also more stylish, more practical and much cheaper in well-kitted Exclusive specification.
In our 2014 JD Power customer satisfaction survey, some owners highlighted issues with the Galaxy’s switchgear and speakers. In fact, it came second to last in the MPV category.
An all-new Galaxy will be launched in 2015, so when this goes on sale, resale values of the older model will suffer.
Should I add any options?
Even the entry-level Zetec model is well equipped, featuring dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth, a heated windscreen and electric driver’s seat-height adjustment. It's what we'd go for.
Options worth considering include a panoramic glass roof, touch-screen sat-nav system, and a Driver Assistance Pack that includes blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning.
To take advantage of today’s deal, go to GBcardeals.com and select the Ford Galaxy from the menus.
