Small on the outside, but big on talent, the Hyundai i10 is our favourite city car. In 1.2-litre guise, the 86bhp motor keeps the i10 up to speed without too much complaint and returns decent fuel economy.
Striking a good balance between body control and suppleness over bumps, the i10 is comfortable enough to use on poor road surfaces, yet stable enough to inspire confidence on twisty roads.
Visibility is good and the controls in the cabin are logically laid out, while the supportive driver’s seat adjusts for height on all but base-spec models. Inside, there’s space for four six-footers to get comfortable.
A five-year warranty with annual vehicle checks and roadside assistance adds to the peace of mind enjoyed by Hyundai owners. Equally, all cars get six airbags, stability control and a tyre-pressure-monitoring system.
Remote control central locking isn’t standard on base-spec models.
Should I add any options?
Premium trim is a bit pricier than the 1.2 SE model that took City Car of the Year honours last year, but there's good reason. It features extras such as cruise control, LED running lights, a leather steering wheel and 14-inch alloy wheels.
It’s also got air-conditioning, four electric windows, CD player, USB input, remote central locking and electric door mirrors.
