Detroit 2007: your guide to the show - Chevrolet

08 January 2007
Muscling in
The Chevrolet Camaro is probably on its way to the UK - Chevrolet has a new convertible version of its old-style muscle car at the Detroit show this year, following the coupe it unveiled in 2006.

Both are scheduled for launch in 2009 (the coupe at the beginning of the year and the convertible in the middle), and both are definitely on their way to the Europe.

Chevrolet's said it's an easy job to engineer it for right-hand drive, so it'll most likely be on sale in the UK in the same year.

Is it quick?
Definitely - expect something like 400bhp from a nice big V8 and a 0-60mph times of close to four seconds for both coupe and convertible.

Start saving now, and if you've got about £30,000 in 2009 you can have one.

Isn't there another muscle car on the way, too?
Ah, you mean the equally retro Dodge Challenger.

No - that's going on sale in the US, but global sales boss Joe Eberhardt told us it would cost too much to engineer in the pedestrian protection features demanded by European legislators.

Which leaves Chevrolet free to lap up the enormous amount of UK demand that there must surely be for an unashamed muscle car.
