Detroit 2007: your guide to the show - Ford

08 January 2007
Any UK stuff from Ford?
No, Ford focuses firmly on the US at its home show. Its posher Jaguar and Volvo brands have models that will come to the UK, though.

It's still well worth having a look at what Ford is up to, so here's a quick round-up of what's on display.

Interceptor
This must be one of the best-looking concept cars at the show, so it's a shame that there's no immediate prospect of it coming to the UK.

It's a really mean car - wide, low-slung and with the huge grille that appeared on the daft F150 Superchief pick-up at Detroit last year.

The high-sided design, which gives it small side windows, is very like the Chrysler 300C - a huge success in the US - but the Ford is still its own car.

Airstream
Ford teamed up with caravan manufacturer Airstream to come up with this concept car (click on 'More pictures' on the right at the top to see it). If you can't tell that it's light years from production by looking at it, perhaps the fact that it's powered by a plug-in hybrid fuel cell gives you another clue that this is a long look into the future.

Lincoln MKR
From the pictures of the MKR we saw before the show, we thought it could be the ugliest car here. It's better 'in the metal,' but it still not pretty.
