Welcome to What Car?'s Detroit motor show review.
The show traditionally kick-starts the year, with manufacturers using it to promote the biggest launches for the year ahead.
This year was no different, with more than 50 launches taking place.
Highlights among the cars set to go on sale this year include the
BMW Z4,
Honda Insight, Jaguar XFR and XKR, Mercedes , Mini Convertible and
Toyota Prius.
There are also some exciting concept cars, which hint at how future models will look. These include the
Audi A7, Kia Soulster, Subaru Legacy and
Volvo S80.
Of course, nobody is ignoring the fact that car sales are in the doldrums and General Motors and Chrysler recently received a £11.4 billion bailout from the Government.
However, rather than dampen the show's atmosphere, it actually resulted in more intrigue, as manufacturers shift emphasis to showing off future fuel-saving and safety technologies.
