Detroit Motor Show - Audi

09 January 2006
Something fast
Audi unveiled its rival to the BMW M5 at the Detroit show, the S6, which goes on sale in the UK later this year.

Like the M5, it's powered by a V10 engine, but the S6's all-new powerplant is a little bigger at 5.2-litres.

That's the only Audi figure that beats the dominating M5, which out-powers the S6 by 500bhp to 420bhp.

So while the S6 is still blisteringly fast, taking just 5.2 seconds to reach 62mph, it's half a second down on the BMW.

Something odd
The Roadjet hasn't just got a weird name, it's a weird car. It looks like an inflated A3, but is actually a touch bigger than an A4. Or, looking at it another way, it's shade smaller than an A6.

Passengers sit a little higher than they do in an A4, 16mm to be precise, but it's hard to fathom what this, or tight sandwiching between the A4 and A6 really adds to the company's stable of cars.

Even so, Audi says it'll probably arrive in a showroom near you in around two years time. Drop us a line if an ever so slightly bigger A4 (or ever so slightly smaller A6), is the Audi you've been hankering after.

Nice door handles
The concept does have some neat touches in the cabin, and there are great door handles. They slide out ready for use as your hand approaches, and then hide flush with the door again once their duty is done.
