Detroit Motor Show - Mitsubishi

09 January 2006
The car with five engines
This is the Concept-CT Miev, which showcases some of the environmentally friendly technology that Mitsubishi is working on.

Under the bonnet there's a conventional but efficient three cylinder 1.0-litre engine that develops 67bhp.

However, there's also a battery on board to feed power to four electric motors. There's one in each wheel (take a look at them in the gallery), boosting overall power to a sporty 143bhp.

There aren't any performance figures, but Mitsubishi says the electric motors, which recharge the battery under braking, allow precise all-wheel control and make for an entertaining drive.

Anything else?
The convertible version of the Eclipse coupe was shown for the first time. They're both nice-looking cars, in a strange way, but Mitsubishi has got no plans to bring them to the UK.
