Diesel joins Suzuki Swift range

A new diesel engine will join the Suzuki Swift supermini range from next month.
With the 74bhp 1.3-litre engine, the car – badged DDiS – averages 67.3mph and emits 109g/km of CO2, which is a slight improvement in economy from the diesel engine in the previous Swift.
That also makes it almost 7mpg more economical than the existing 1.2-litre petrol-engined models, but its 0-62mph time of 12.7 seconds is just under half a second slower.
The new diesel model is available only with the five-door body in mid-spec SZ3 trim. Standard equipment includes seven airbags, air-conditioning and alloy wheels, and the car will cost £12,890.
As a result, the new DDiS model is more than £1000 dearer than the equivalent petrol-engined Swift, but it compares well on price with diesel-engined models of cars such as the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa.
