Drink-drive figures show no decline
* 4.99% of tested drivers are over limit * Figures similar to previous year's * Marked increase in under-25s failing test...
More than 9000 drivers were arrested for drink-driving during the Christmas period.
In total, 183,397 UK drivers were tested between December 1, 2008 and January 1, 2009 - an increase of more than 25,000 from the 2007 campaign.
The percentage of drivers who tested positive remained largely static at 4.99% - equating to 9148 drivers being arrested.
However, there was an 11% increase in under-25s failing breath tests.
Chief Constable of Gwent Police, Mick Giannasi, said: 'The percentage of drivers who tested positive, refused or failed to provide a sample following a breath test has remained largely consistent from the 2007 operation.
'Unfortunately, that means there are still people out there who are not getting the message.'
