Young men have been specifically targeted at the launch of the government's Christmas anti drink-driving campaign.

Last year, more than a third of male breath-test failures were in men aged between 17 and 29.

More people are stopped and breathalysed at Christmas than at any other time of the year and a new campaign to be publicised in bars, on radio and over the internet, will highlight the dangers of getting behind the wheel after just one drink.

Meredydd Huges, chief constable of South Yorkshire and spokesman for the Association of Chief Police Officers said: 'We will be cracking down hard on all those people driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

'The message is clear - if you drink and drive, you will be caught and brought to justice.'
