Dundee is the best city in the UK for motorists, according to a new survey

Motorists seeking the easiest place to live in the UK should head for Dundee - it has just been ranked as the most car-friendly city in Britain.

The survey was conducted by Virgin Money Car Insurance, which awarded points to cities based on a number of criteria including petrol prices, number of car parks, the cost of parking, the level of car crime and the number of speed cameras on main roads into the city.

Based on these categories, Dundee came out on top - but Cardiff came bottom. The Welsh capital scored particularly badly for car crime, has higher petrol prices, and had a greater number of speed cameras.

Other interesting statistics revealed by the survey include:

• London is the most expensive place to park - a two-hour stay costs an average of £11;

• London also has the most speed cameras on major routes into the city;

• The capital does better for petrol prices, though - Northampton is the most expensive

• Edinburgh has the cheapest petrol in the UK

• Nottingham is worst for car crime;

• The cheapest places to park are Peterborough and Telford.
