Motorists should be taught how to drive in an environmentally friendly manner, says a new report by the Commission for Integrated Transport.
THe group, which advises the Government on transport issues, has said that state-sponsored lessons in eco-motoring could reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
It also wants new cars to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and wants action from car manufacturers to ensure that emissions are driven down.
It says that by 2020 all new cars should produce no more than 100g/km of carbon dioxide - which is no more than the greenest cars on sale today.
