Citroen and Peugeot will launch all-new electric cars next year, thanks to a new agreement.

The agreement – between Mitsubishi Motors and PSA Peugeot-Citroen – was signed on Friday in Paris and is the next step of a partnership to produce electric vehicles.

The main points of the cooperative agreement are:

• The development of an EV (electric vehicle) for the European market based on the Mitsubishi i MIEV
• The vehicle will be sold in Europe in both Citroen and Peugeot versions
• Production will start in October 2010, with vehicles on sale by the end of 2010.

The latest i MiEV was launched in Japan in June 2009. It’s an updated, all-electric version of the Mitsubishi i hatchback that’s already on sale in the UK.
