Electric car grant details released

The Government has revealed the nine electric cars that will qualify for a 5000 Plug-In Car Grant.
You will be able to buy the Mitsubishi i-Miev, the Peugeot Ion and the electric Smart Fortwo next month, while the remaining six cars go on sale over the coming 12 months or so.

What is it? Dinky Mitsubishi, based on the i car
Price: 23,990 (including 5000 grant)

Peugeot Ion

What is it? Electric version of the Fortwo

Nissan Leaf
What is it? Nissan's electric small family car, which will be built in Sunderland

Citroen C-Zero
What is it? Citroen's take on the Mitsubishi i-Miev.

Tata Vista
What is it: Four-seat small family car from Indian car maker. It has a range of around 160 miles
Price: Prices won't be revealed until next year, but sources say it will be 'competitive' with its i-Miev and Leaf rivals.
On sale: Summer 2011
What Car? verdict: The Vista has been developed by and will be built at Tata Motor's European Technical Centre at Warwick University in Coventry. There are no details on how many it plans to build yet. UK customers should be able to lease the car from next summer.
Chevrolet Volt
What is it? Electric family car that has a small petrol engine, which is used to recharge the battery pack, giving it a range of 300+ miles.
Price: 25,000 (est, including 5000 grant)

Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid
What is it: Prius that you can plug into to the mains to charge up the batteries.
