'Electric motors have been around for as long as the internal combustion engine,' the battery company Valence told us recently. ' What's been missing, though, is a good battery.'
That appears to have been solved with the latest generation of lithium-ion batteries, which are relatively compact and quick to recharge, durable and deliver reasonable performance.
