Scrappage special - Buyer's guide - Estates
Target Price £21,999
Volvo knows how to build great estates - and the V70 is one serious wagon.
A massive load space, supreme comfort and an efficient diesel engine mean it can handle the family and haul some serious luggage without breaking the bank.
The 2.0-litre diesel isn't the most powerful engine in the range, but it's more than up to the job and it's refined and frugal. The V70 is also stylish inside and out, and equipped with alloys, climate control and electric windows as standard.
Safety has a high priority since ESP, curtain airbags and a five-star Euro NCAP crash rating are also included.
Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI S 5dr
Target Price £12,769
Think of the Octavia as a straightforward and sturdy estate that delivers more than you may well expect.
The clever 1.4-litre 120bhp engine punches above its weight, yet still manages a 42.8mpg average. There's also bags of room in the boot and a surprising amount of space for passengers.
It's the cheapest Octavia estate, but you still get air-con and side airbags as standard, while future
values look promising, too.
