Mercedes Benz M ClassAdult Occupant Five stars
Child Occupant Three stars
Pedestrian One star
Front impactThe test was carried out with ‘Pre-safe’ turned off. The M Class still managed to score highly, though, with the passenger compartment not deforming. The airbags, including knee airbags, were automatically adapted for occupants of different sizes, and in different seating positions, to provide good protection for their chests, faces and knees
Child protectionThe passenger airbag cannot be manually switched off, so a rearward facing
child seat can only be used when a system which automatically recognises a child restraint mounted in the passenger’s seat is used. This system is not standard equipment across all models in the M class range, and information regarding this and the ISOFIX mountings present in the car was insufficient.
Pedestrian protectionProtection for a pedestrian’s legs from the bumper and the bonnet was poor and the bonnet top also offered poor protection for a child’ head.
