Face-lift and new engines for Outlander

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Mitsubishi's Outlander 4x4 will get a mild makeover in time for the Frankfurt motor show in September.

The most significant change is the addition of a new diesel engine, a 154bhp 2.2-litre from Peugeot-Citroen. That's the same unit already used in the Outlander's sister cars, the Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser. The four-cylinder unit is mated to a six-speed gearbox.

A new petrol engine will also be available, a 168bhp 2.4-litre unit with either a five-speed manual or six-speed CVT automatic gearbox.

On top of that, the Outlander gets a new soft-finish dash, as well as the option of 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-activated wipers, rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

The revised car goes on sale at the end of 2007. Prices won't be released until September.
