Kia has revealed its face-lifted Soul MPV at the New York motor show.

The updated Soul gets a fresh look, along with more power and improved efficiency.

A new 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox produces 135bhp – an 11bhp increase on the previous engine – and 121lb/ft of torque. Economy figures have yet to be released for the UK market, but are said to be improved by 10%.

The Soul also gets a styling upgrade, including new projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, a redesigned bonnet, and new front and rear bumpers. There are also new LED rear light clusters, while the overall shape of the car is more streamlined.

Inside, there is a new three-dial dashboard cluster, with LCD illumination and a centre stack that appears to float. There is also full MP3 player control via the audio head unit and steering wheel-mounted controls. A reversing camera is available as an option.

Michael Sprague, vice-president marketing and communications, said: 'We have given the new Soul significant improvements in power, style and fuel economy, making this iconic vehicle the perfect package for consumers looking for something a little outside the box.'

The new Soul is expected in UK showrooms from the autumn. Prices will be announced closer to the on sale date.
