Subaru's hot new Impreza WRX STi arrives in the UK next March with a price tag of £24,995.
That’s £1600 less than the previous version of the WRX STI, even though the new car is more powerful, faster to 60mph and more economical.
With 296bhp, the new Impreza has an extra 19bhp which helps to shave the 0-60mph time from 5.0sec to 4.8sec. Top speed is 155mph, while combined fuel consumption is cut by 1.5mpg to 27.4mpg.
Although it's 50mm shorter than the old car, the latest WRX STi has a 95mm longer wheelbase which, Subaru claims, makes the car more stable. Front and rear track are also increased over the standard versions of the new Impreza by 45mm and 40mm respectively, 17-inch wheels hiding in extended wheelarches.
Large bumpers, sills, air intakes and vents further mark the car apart from the 1.5- and 2.0-litre versions of the car, as do a large roof spoiler with high-mounted brake light, four exhausts.
The suspension and braking system are completely overhauled compared with standard cars, while the driver can choose from a variety of throttle and differential settings for different conditions and handling characterstics.
Standard equipment includes front, side and curtain airbags, climate control, Alcantara and leather bucket seats, six CD in-dash stereo with MP3 player input and cruise control.
