Fiat will replace its Seicento city car in 2007 with a new model based on this Trepiuno concept car.
Although no official announcement has been made, insiders have told whatcar.com to expect the car in 2007. Fiat revealed to industry newspaper Automotive News Europe that its plan is to build 100,000 of the city cars a year.
Based on a shortened Panda platform, the new three-door hatchback will have four seats, despite being around 300mm shorter than a Ford Ka.
The Trepiuno concept car was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March. It provided seating for three adults and one child, once a section of the dashboard was folded away. The production version will seat two adults up front, but the rear is only likely to be suitable for children.
The new city car is likely to cost from around £6000.
