Fiesta to get non-turbo 1.0 engine
The car will have a naturally aspirated version of Ford's new three-cylinder engine. We recently tried a turbocharged version in the new Focus 1.0 Ecoboost and were hugely impressed.
The man in charge of developing the engine, Dr. Thomas Zenner, told What Car? that it was designed from the outset to have both turbo and non-turbo applications, and said that a naturally aspirated version would make perfect sense in the Fiesta.
Without a turbocharger, the 1.0 engine would produce around 80bhp (about the same as the current 1.25 Fiesta), and would almost certainly deliver sub-100g/km CO2 emissions.
The introduction of the new engine is likely to coincide with the launch of a face-lifted Fiesta range this autumn.
