The new Renault Clio supermini has just made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show but now we can reveal how its forthcoming big rival, the Peugeot 207, is shaping up.

Our exclusive computer-generated images give a good idea of how the forthcoming 207 will look when it arrives in the UK next year.

The car is expected to make its first official appearance at the Geneva Motor Show 2006 in March before sales start in the summer. Prices should start at around £8000.

The French pair will face stiff competition with six other new supermini launches tabled for 2006.

The Fiat Grande Punto, Nissan Note and Toyota Yaris all go on sale early in the year, and the next-generation Corsa from Vauxhall will be available from the autumn.

Even smaller new cars also arrive in UK showrooms next year. Volkswagen's Fox is due at the beginning of the year while the next Renault Twingo is expected later in 2006. Renault will produce right-hand-drive versions of the new Twingo. The previous model was left-hand drive only.
