These computer-generated images show how the Vauxhall Vectra replacement could look when it is launched at the end of 2008.
The car, which it has already been confirmed will drop the Vectra name, probably in favour of Insignia, is said to be wider and taller than the current model. This means it should challenge the class-leading VW Passat for interior space.
The extra width is also expected to help the new car handle better than the old one.
Rumours suggest the current engine line-up will be expanded to include a 200bhp 2.7-litre V6 turbodiesel and a heavily updated 2.8-litre petrol.
Insiders say the car will debut at the 2008 Geneva motor show.
