Subaru has released the first teaser image of the Impreza WRX STi, which will go on sale in the UK in spring 2008.

The car is powered by a turbocharged 300bhp 2.5-litre engine, which is fitted to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The car will be formally unveiled at the Tokyo motor show on October 26, although clues to its styling were given by the WRC concept car unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show earlier this month.

In particular, the WRX STi is expected to share the WRC concept car's dramatically flared wheelarches.

Prices are expected to start from £30,000, and UK sales will be limited to 1500 cars in 2008.
