Ford C-Max first drive - What is it?

22 September 2010
This is an all-new version of Ford's smallest MPV and, unlike the outgoing car, it's available in both five- and seven-seat forms.

The seven-seater, which Ford calls the Grand C-Max, is 130mm longer than the five, but both versions use the same basic underpinnings as the next-generation Focus hatchback (which doesn't go on sale until March 2011).

The C-Max and Grand C-Max are also the first models to get Ford's new turbocharged 1.6-litre Ecoboost petrol engine. Those after a cheaper option can choose from a pair of non-turbo 1.6 petrols, while 1.6- and 2.0-litre diesels complete the line-up at launch.

Hybrid and plug-in-hybrid versions will follow in 2013, and Ford is also working on a turbocharged 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.
