The Ford Focus EV electric car will be launched in 2012, but it will not be a major player in the market, according to Ford of Great Britain managing director Nigel Sharp.
Although Ford has committed to sell the car in the UK, Sharp says the company does not plan to aggressively market the car.
'We are equipping ourselves to be in the EV market, but the fact is the infrastructure to support mass electric vehicle sales won't be there by 2012,' said Sharp.
'Early adopters will want them, and we'll have a class-leading product for them, but there's no question of selling cars at a loss just to be at the forefront of electric vehicle sales.'
