Ford promises a high standard of equipment across the range, and value-for-money pricing.
As part of the plan, the line-up will be simplified to just four trim grades – Edge, Zetec, Ghia and Titanium X – each with its own distinct character and features. Edge is aimed largely at fleets, Zetec gets a sporty look, while Ghia is targeted at people who want classic luxury, and Titanium X is the technology-filled option.
The new
Mondeo features what Ford calls an ‘intelligent protection system’. Seven airbags, including one for the driver’s knees, and anti-skid control will be standard items, and there’ll be the option of adaptive cruise control that regulates your distance from the car ahead.
It’s also the first car that can automatically prevent you filling up with the wrong type of fuel, a costly mistake committed by 150,000 UK motorists every year. Ford’ capless refuelling system detects the size of the nozzle on the fuel pipe and bars it from entering if you’ve picked up the wrong one.
A ‘human machine interface’ – a central control unit and screen for the radio, sat-nav and phone, similar to Audi’s MMI or BMW's iDrive - is another option to emphasise the Mondeo’s upmarket credentials.
