Top of the bill on BMW's stand is the
X6 concept – a concept in the lightest sense, because you can expect to see this car in BMW showrooms next summer.
It will fit in the range between the
X5 and 6 , sitting on the platform of the big 4x4.
BMW say it will appeal to someone who wants something slightly smaller than an X5 and with a more dynamic drive.
It's smaller, certainly, as it will only seat four people - yet prices will be above the X5, starting from around £50,000.
Expect the engine line-up to mirror that of the X5 until 2009, when BMW's first hybrid engine will slot into the X6.
Two battery packs will enable the car to make use of electric power at higher speeds, improving fuel consumption and carbon dioxide outputs. This is where existing hybrids struggle.
Hybrid power will filter through the rest of the BMW range at the start of the next decade.
