Frankfurt motor show 2007 - Daihatsu

11 September 2007
Daihatsu brought two quirky concept cars to Frankfurt – one of which is strongly tipped to be the forerunner of a production model.

The OFC-1 concept draws strongly on the design of the Copen that it is being tipped to replace in the next five years.

The striking sportscar is powered by a 660cc engine, as was the original Copen, and features an electrically-powered folding roof.

The HSC concept is also a 660cc-engined car, this time designed to highlight Daihatsu's green credentials.

Its body has a low 0.28 drag co-efficient, which in layman's terms means that it will cut through the air with minimal resistance, reducing fuel consumption and therefore cutting emissions.

The car is certainly an attention-grabber, with the rear wheels extending to the end of the bodywork to create a longer wheelbase.

The quest for space goes even further, though, as there is no pillar between the front and rear doors, and the rear doors are hinged at the back, allowing the side of the car to be opened up.

In addition, Daihatsu is also showing off the all-new 1.0-litre Charade that was originally displayed at this year's Geneva motor show.
