Another month, another
911. Porsche, based less than two hours down the autobahn from Frankfurt, chose its homeland to reveal the GT2, the most extreme version of its timeless rear-engined coupe.
Like the Ferrari F430 Scuderia, it's an exercise in upping power and shaving off weight to create a car for ultimate enthusiasts who'll want to enjoy their cars on race tracks as well as public roads.
The turbocharged 3.6-litre flat-six engine gains another 50bhp and now peaks at 523bhp, while there's also more pull - 501lb ft from just 2200rpm.
Porsche quotes a 0-60mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 204mph.
Mind you, you'll need to know how and where to let rip because the 911 Turbo's four-wheel-drive system has been ditched as a contribution towards a 10% overall weight saving - power is transmitted to the rear wheels only.
Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard, though, and the rear silencer and exhaust tailpipes are made from titanium, saving more weight.
All of this hikes up the price to £131,070 – some £33,000 more than a 911 Turbo and £37,000 more than a GT3 RS.
The GT2 will be available in the UK in November.
