Frankfurt motor show 2007 - Volkswagen Up

11 September 2007
Add a L to the start of this concept's name and an O to the end and you'll understand what the VW Up is all about – the next Lupo.

It heralds a new family of small, highly efficient cars VW plans to go into production by the end of the decade and will replace the current Fox range.

With its engine in the rear and rear-wheel drive, it is an all-new platform for Volkswagen.

It's a four-seater – 50mm shorter than the current Fox – which VW says will start at just £4000.

The engine line-up includes the three-cylinder diesel currently in the Polo Bluemotions, so expect CO2 emissions to be lower than 99g/km and fuel economy of around 80mpg.

There will also be an all-new two cylinder diesel.

The rear of the concept is covered in a translucent material that contains the VW badge and the brake lights.
