Frankfurt motor show 2007 - Volvo C30 Efficiency

Tuesday, September 11, 2007
Volvo has unveiled a high-efficiency version of its C30 small family car - the imaginatively titled C30 Efficiency.

The new model is powered by a 1.6-litre turbodiesel, but by incorporating a range of tweaks, the car can achieve 62.8mpg on average and carbon dioxide emissions of less than 120g/km.

That compares with the 57.6mpg and 129g/km of carbon dioxide of a conventional C30 1.6 D.

With its sub-120g/km emissions, the C30 Efficiency is Volvo's first car to fall into VED tax band B.

To help achieve these figures, the C30 Efficiency has a new roof spoiler, rear bumper and 16-inch wheels.

The gearbox has higher gearing in third, fourth and fifth gears, while low-friction tyres and transmission oil help to improve efficiency and decrease emissions.

The C30 Efficiency will be on sale here next year, although there's no word yet on exactly when, or how much it will cost.

What will definitely be here at the start of 2008 is Volvo's version of a DSG gearbox.

Volvo's Powershift twin-clutch auto gearbox will be available with the 2.0-diesel models of the C30, S40 and V50.
