  • McDonald's turns oil into biodiesel
  • Burger chain's lorries will run on fuel
  • Aim is to save over 1650 tonnes of CO2

McDonald's is using its own chip fat to provide biodiesel for its lorries

Burger chain McDonald's is to turn its dirty cooking oil into fuel to power its delivery vehicles.

The cooking oil will be blended with rapeseed oil and turned into biodiesel at a plant in Milton Keynes. It hopes to convert six million litres of oil into fuel each year.

The company will convert its 155 delivery trucks to run on the biofuel by next year, in a move to save over 1650 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Senior vice-president Matthew Howe said: 'We've been sending our used cooking oil for recycling for some time, but we are now delighted now to have a practical, efficient use for it within our own business.'
