I filled my Mercedes S500 at Tesco with standard unleaded fuel. Within five minutes the engine started misfiring and the engine diagnostic fault light came on. The car is now at Hughes Mercedes-Benz where they are trying to correct the fault/damage.
Chris LundI filled up my 2001 Land Rover Freelander with unleaded petrol from a Tesco station in Milton Keynes on Feb 17.
The following day I was driving back to Southampton, when the engine started jittering and misfiring. It got much worse over the week.
Now it's getting a bit better, but I can't afford to spend hundreds of pounds to fix it!
Harith AlaniFilled up at Tesco in Bar Hill in Cambridge last Tuesday, February 20. The car is a Mercedes C200k. It displayed the engine warning light but was running OK.
Then the engine started misfiring to the point that it was undriveable.
I took it to my local independent garage, who advised me that the air sensors were damaged/malfunctioning, causing the engine to misfire.
Mercedes has no more sensors in stock and they are on back order. I know of two other cars, both Mercedes C-Class Kompressors, that have exactly the same problem.
I am looking at a £1000 bill for repairs.
Simon CadmanI fuelled up my Renault Scenic at Tesco in Watford on 14 February 2007.
On Friday (Feb 23 2007) last week, my car stopped working. I was driving and felt the car was jerking (luckily, I was only driving a short distance) and felt like there was not enough fuel getting to the engine.
I called my husband who said it could be some dirt in the petrol, so I bought some injection cleaner which cost me £5.99 to see if that would work. No joy.
My husband said don't drive it anymore.
A mechanic came out to have a look at the car, as I needed it urgently the next day. He thought it could be some sensor that had gone and said he would have to take it to the garage.
Well, to my shock, it was the catalytic converter which had failed, so that cost me £160 + VAT and there were other faults which cost an extra £60 + labour. The total cost over £300, not forgetting the inconvenience of not having a car for three days.
