Fuel contamination riddle continues - Your stories - part 2

I filled my car (a VW Polo that has just had a full service) with unleaded fuel at the Tesco service station in Purley, Surrey on Friday February 23 at 07.30 in the morning - I have the receipt showing this.

During the drive home that evening, the engine management system light came on, but the car continued to run as normal - I got home, left the car for a while, started it up again and the warning light had gone out.

I used the car on Monday and Tuesday of this week, and during the journey the light came on again, and also the warning sign for emissions.

I have been unable to use the car since and have at least three-quarters of a tank of petrol that Tesco can come and test if they wish, as I only ever fill up at their filling station.

This may be pure coincidence, but I have a Vauxhall Astra Elegance CDTi. I filled with diesel at the end of January, from either Tesco Lakeside or Esso South Ockendon. On Tuesday January 30th my car stopped. I had to have the oxygen sensor replaced.

All the reports I have heard have concerned unleaded vehicles, so this may be in no way related - I just thought I would let you know.

I filled up at Somerfield Jet petrol station in Watford on February13. About a week later the emissions light came on in my Vauxhall Corsa and it started losing power, and by February 23 it was undriveable, so I took it to the garage.

They diagnosed a faulty oxygen sensor which cost me about £200. The garage said they’d seen several cars with the same problem. I think the Somerfield Jet is supplied by Greenergy - I saw their tanker in the petrol station the other day.
