Fuel contamination riddle continues - Your stories - part 3

Thursday, March 01, 2007
I purchased petrol from Asda in Milton Keynes on February 12th, 14th and 15th, and my car began to show problems at 4.30pm on the 15th, when it was diagnosed as having a failed oxygen sensor.

This was replaced at 8.45am on February 16. The car is drivable but is still not 100% right, and the garage reckons that the catalytic converter may be damaged, so it is going back in for further investigation and repair.

The news only mentions fuel from Tesco and Morrisons, but mine was from Asda. Does this mean other supermarkets are involved? I have e-mailed Asda for comment and will let you know if I get a reply.

I filled my Vauxhall Corsa up with unleaded fuel in Sainsbury's petrol station, Taunton. The following day, my car was very juddery and something didn't seem right. It then stalled while I was driving it and I could not get it to start. This resulted in the RAC being called out, and they managed to get it started with no problems.

The following day, after a short journey, exactly the same thing happened. The engine warning light came on and the car just stopped working. I could not get it to start, so had it towed to the garage.

The garage is repairing it at the moment and will probably tell me what is wrong tomorrow, but I have a strong feeling that it is because of the fuel, because all the symptoms I have had sound like what other people are having.

My car was completely fine before and I had no previous problems! I called Sainsbury's and they have apparently checked their fuel and, like the other supermarkets, they claim it is fine.
