Fuel contamination riddle continues - Your stories - part 7

My wife filled up her Peugeot 206 CC at Tesco in Kettering a week and a half ago. Shortly afterwards the car started to splutter and lose power.

I took it to Peugeot who diagnosed a faulty oxygen sensor. The car has been off the road for nearly a week as the part was on back-order. I got a phone call from Peugeot today advising me of the fuel problem, and asking me if the car was filled up at Tesco.

I now have to pay £150 to have the fuel system flushed and then will have to pay for a fresh tank of fuel.

I filled up my BMW 316i SE on February 23rd with Tesco super unleaded at Bulls Bridge, Hayes, and within a short while the car began to shudder and run erratically and sometimes even stall.

I thought it might have been an electrical problem. I still have over half a tank of fuel in the car and wonder what I should do (Don't drive any further. Have your car recovered to a garage for further investigation – Ed)

I always use Tesco fuel and filled my Vauxhall Agila up on Monday morning at Tesco Dunstable on my way to Witney. When returning from Witney, a warning light came on.

My usual service garage put the diagnostic computer on the car and, sure enough, the oxygen sensor was revealed as the culprit. The mechanic then went on to tell me, without me prompting him, that I had bought my petrol from Tesco, as he had had six cars in that week already (this was only Tuesday!) with the same problem. All had purchased unleaded fuel from Tesco.

Vauxhall is currently out of stock of this item, so who knows when I shall enjoy the privilege of forking out almost £100 for the sensor, plus labour, plus VAT.
