Fuel price protests this Saturday

10 December 2007

Fuel price protesters will blockade refineries and storage depots this Saturday.

A group called TransAction 2007 has announced it is planning a 'nationwide legal protest' against the cost of fuel.

The group's members, made up of farmers and road hauliers, will blockade refineries and storage depots across the country.

A statement read: 'TransAction 2007 makes you aware that a nationwide legal protest against high fuel taxation will take place at various locations. Protest action will take place on the same date and at the same time.'

Similar action was taken in 2000, when lorry drivers drove slowly on major routes and blocked fuel refineries.

Following the protests, the Government froze fuel duty, although only for a short period of time.

However, the action received mixed support from the public, who were inconvenienced by the action.

Average UK prices are currently 102.9p a litre for unleaded and 108p for diesel.
