More funding for low-carbon cars

The Technology Strategy Board has launched a new competition that will provide up to £15 million to help develop low-carbon vehicles.
It follows the announcement of the winners of its Low Carbon Vehicle Demonstrator competition, which will provide £25 million to eight trial vehicle programmes.
The new Integrated Delivery Programme Competition will provide funding from the Technology Strategy Board, the Department for Transport and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council for projects that 'accelerate research and development, leading to the reduction of carbon emissions from mass-market road vehicles'.
Up to £5 million will go to projects that help accelerate short-term research and up to £10 million will be available for longer-term projects.
The competition is the second part of a five-year programme designed to cut carbon emissions, speed up the introduction of low-carbon vehicles and help UK companies benefit from growing demand for low-carbon vehicles.
