Future technology on show at Goodwood

The Goodwood Festival of Speed provides plenty of chances to see sports cars old and new, but there's an equally strong focus on green technology this year.

There are UK debuts for some interesting concept cars and a low-CO2 technology that were likely to see on production cars over the next few years.

Some of the most interesting concept cars were on display at the FoS-Tech (Festival of Speed Technology) exhibition. Among them are UK debuts for the Chevrolet Mi-Ray, a sports car powered by a mix of electric motors and a 1.5-litre turbo engine.

This is the first time Seat's IBE concept car has been on display in the UK, too. The all-electric three-door hatchback won't go into production, but Seat says that it introduces styling themes that will influence how the next generation of Seats look.

Peugeot's EX1 concept car is also here. The electric sports car recently broke a lap record for an electric vehicle at the Nurburgring in Germany.

Jaguars C-X75 concept car combines jaw-dropping supercar looks with gas-turbine technology. Jaguar has confirmed that a limited number will be built and that the car will cost between 700,000 and 900,000.

Citroen's Hypnos electric concept car is also on display. It previewed how the DS5 production model will look, albeit without the multi-coloured interior.

The main stands were packed with electric, hybrid and high-tech vehicles. The Chevrolet Volt and Vauxhall Ampera are present, as is Rolls-Royce's 102EX electric prototype.

Among the other highlights at the show were UK debuts for the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 and RCZ Asphalt THP 200 special edition, the BMW M5 and Toyota GRMN Sports Hybrid Concept II.

There was a lot of interest in the Alfa Romeo 4C, too. Alfa has confirmed that the stunning two-seater, mid-engined sports car will go on sale in 2013.
