Fiat's tiny Trepiuno concept car was the main draw on the company’s Geneva show stand today.
Although no official go-ahead has been given for the city car concept, company insiders hint that Fiat will start producing the Trepiuno by 2007.
The two-door Trepiuno, which continues Fiat’s tradition of city cars stretching back to the original 500 of 1957, can seat up to three adults and one child. A section of the dashboard folds away to allow the front passenger seat be slid forward, providing more room in the rear for a third adult alongside a child. Otherwise there’s only space
for two children in the back.
Design touches include door handles that pop out when pressed, a large central speedo, a central exhaust pipe and body-coloured cabin trim.
Fiat also pulled the wraps off the 4x4 version of its
Panda city car, which will go on sale towards the end of this year. It’s mechanically similar to the standard Panda, but has raised ground clearance. Fiat confirmed it has no plans to build a 3dr version of the Panda.
Also on display was the 5Terre off-roader concept which is based on its new Idea compact MPV. The face-lifted Multipla is also on display, ahead of its launch in late summer.
