Geneva Motor Show 2004 - Peugeot

02 March 2004
One of the most important cars at the show was the Peugeot 407. We've seen the saloon already, but this was our first chance to see the SW estate.

Also on the stand was the Silhouette concept, which gives clues to how the 407 Coupe will look when it goes on sale in 2006, although production versions will lose the concept’s aggressive bodykit and spoiler.

The all-new 407 SW estate is due on sale this summer, and a closer look at the show model suggests it will focus more on style and versatility than outright load space.

Peugeot admits as much, suggesting that many buyers are simply interested in having just a little more flexibility than the saloon offers. Nonetheless, it points out that the SW's load bay is wide and well shaped, while the rear screen can be opened separately from the tailgate.

The Geneva show gave us our first chance to look inside the 407 saloon, and first impressions are good thanks to its attractive styling and decent quality.

There's enough legroom for four six-footers, but the trade-off for the sleek, coupe-like styling is that the 407 doesn't seem to have as much rear headroom as some family car rivals. The boot is large, however.

The 407 saloon goes on sale this May with a starting price of £14,750. The SW will follow in late summer, but prices have not yet been announced.
