Geneva motor show 2011 - Toyota FT-86 II

28 February 2011
The FT-86 II concept, unveiled today at the Geneva motor show, gives the clearest pointer yet to Toyota's new sports car due on sale next year.

This new car builds on the original FT-86 concept that was shown at Geneva last year, and previews a sports car that has been jointly developed with Subaru. Subaru is showing its own version at the show.

Each company will sell their own version of the new rear-wheel-drive coupe, but the pair will share many parts. Both models are expected to closely resemble the concept car, and while they won't look exactly the same, the differences are expected to be limited to bespoke front- and rear ends.

The concept measures 4235mm long, 1795mm wide and 1270mm high, with a long, 2570mm wheelbase and is powered by Subaru's boxer engine, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Toyota is likely to tweak it for better emissions, while Subaru is rumoured to be putting the emphasis on extra power. Toyota is also believed to be considering a petrol/electric hybrid version.
