Geneva motor show 2011 - Lamborghini Aventador

This is the Lamborghini Aventador, a super-powerful replacement for the Murcielago.

Its full name is the Aventador LP 700-4 which tells us it has a 700hp engine (690bhp) and is four-wheel drive.

The numbers game continues past the output to a staggering 0-62mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 217mph.

Featuring a cabonfibre monocoque, the Aventador weighs in at 1575kg. That's nowhere near as light as the full carbon 999kg Sesto Elemento concept car, but it's pretty svelte considering the size of the car and the fact it carries a 6.5-litre V12.

Like its Murcielago, Diablo and Countach forebears, the Aventador is mid-engined to provide good weight distribution.

It's also named after a famous fighting bull and continues to feature scissor action doors.

Besides extensive use of carbonfibre, the Aventador breaks more new ground for Lamborghini, however, with an ultra-fast seven-speed automatic transmission and pushrod suspension.

Emissions are down compared with the Murcielago, but they're naturally still very high at 398g/km. That means fuel consumption of just 16.4mpg.

The car is expected to cost around £200,000 and first deliveries are expected in late summer.
