Geneva motor show - Chevrolet

06 March 2007
More American cars...
If the modern styling of the Cadillacs you may have read about earlier in this feature doesn't appeal, then perhaps the retro-Yankee styling of this Chevrolet Camaro is more up your street.

While the Chevy brand has been slapped on the front of a variety of ex-Daewoo models and affordable family cars so far, all that is going to change (eventually) when the Camaro muscle car goes on sale in 2009.

A coupe version comes first, while this convertible concept version - shown for the first time in Europe at the Geneva show - is likely to be available in time for the summer.

Power in the concept cars comes from a 6.0-litre V8 with about 400bhp - good enough for a 0-60mph time of four-and-a-bit seconds.

So it's wall-to-wall muscle from now on then?
Well, no. The current line-up is likely to remain the bread-and-butter for Chevrolet, even if the Camaro might be the sort of car that first comes to mind when you think of the brand.

Don't forget Chevrolet is also spreading into the 4x4 sector this spring, with the arrival of the Captiva 4x4 - a seven-seat version of the Vauxhall Antara.
