The Tom Thumb of 4x4sActually, the new Daihatsu Terios isn't that small – with a longer wheelbase and overall length, it's now bigger than the
Ford Fiesta.
It's also wider than the car it replaces, so there's a bit more room in the cabin. Daihatsu reckons five can squeeze in, but we think that three people in the rear seat wouldn't be comfortable for very long.
A new 104bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine provides much-needed added performance, with 19bhp more than the old car had.
A full-time four-wheel-drive system automatically controls a differential lock for added grip in slippery conditions, and every car will also be kitted out with air-conditioning, driver, passenger and side airbags, a CD player, electric windows and reversing sensors.
Daihatsu's space explorationAs well as seating five adults, Daihatsu reckons there's space for three seats of golf clubs in the boot. Folding the rear seats down frees up enough room for a mountain bike.
Is it cheaper than the old car too? No. The cheapest S version of the car is £4000 more expensive than the old entry-level model at £12,995.
