Does this Hornet have a sting in its tail? Well, it's front-engined and front-wheel drive, so not really – but with 170bhp, it is a pretty nippy little concept.
Thanks to the supercharged 1.6-litre petrol engine, the pocket-sized Dodge makes it to 60mph in 6.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 130mph.
While it's very much cast from the supermini block as far as overall length goes, the Hornet is nearly as wide as a car from the class above, such as a
Ford Focus. This wide track could make this an agile little motor.
Will it be built? At the moment, it's merely intended to further signal the introduction of the Dodge brand to the UK, but building it hasn't been ruled out.
If Dodge means business about establishing itself about Europe, and we know it does, it will have to seriously consider the supermini. After all, such cars are massively popular in Europe.
What is certain from Dodge? This summer we'll get the Caliber, a rival to the Ford Focus, then next year we'll see the Nitro 4x4, and a family car to compete with the
Ford Mondeo.
Also due in 2007 is a hot 296bhp SRT-4 version of the Caliber, which smokes its way to 60mph in less than six seconds.
