Geneva motor show - Dodge

06 March 2007
What's the star of the stand?
The Demon - a two-seater, rear-wheel-drive roadster with a 2.4-litre engine developing 170bhp.

It sounds like a recipe for an American MX-5 and it is - it's a sporty little number that would surely sit well in the Dodge portfolio.

Dodge describes it as a 'contemporary Dodge Viper', recognising what everyone knows - you don't need an enormous 500bhp V10 engine to have fun.

The MX-5 is one of the best driver's cars money can buy, so if Dodge got it right with the Demon, it could tap into a popular market and win itself some new customers.

At the moment, there are no definite plans to produce it, but the prospects for this car, and the hot-looking Hornet supermini concept that came before it, are surely good.

What about something I'll definitely be able to buy?
There's the Avenger, which made its European debut at the Geneva show.

A brash alternative to the more well-known family cars such as the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Vectra, the Avenger goes on sale this summer from around £15,000.

From launch, you can choose between two petrol engines and one diesel. The 154bhp 2.0-litre petrol is matched to a manual gearbox, as is the 138bhp diesel, while the 173bhp 2.4-litre petrol uses an automatic gearbox.

If you want something faster, there's also bound to be a powerful SRT version, although Dodge isn't saying when it might unleash that in the UK.
